New York's Juvenile Officer and School Resource Officers Association

From the Executive Director:

The State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association (S.N.Y.P.J.O.A.) was established in 1975 as an educational and training organization. Its membership is comprised of police juvenile officers, School Resource Officers and D.A.R.E. officers, school personnel, social and youth bureau workers, and other juvenile justice professionals. The association became incorporated on May 16th, 1976, and then approved as a 501(c)3 not for profit organization by the federal government.  The S.N.Y.P.J.O.A. is a recognized leader in New York State for developing and implementing curriculum for the certification of police juvenile officers, School Resource Officers, Community Resource Officers, Juvenile Justice Professionals, and  family services, with a special focus on crimes committed either by or against children.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to extend an invitation to you to become acquainted with our organization and consider becoming a  member of this nationally acclaimed training organization and to participate in our training that is offered each year throughout New York State.

 Brian K Forte

 Executive Director

Our Mission:

The State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association is committed to the development and implementation of quality training for all of its members and others in the field of juvenile justice. Through this training, law enforcement and other juvenile justice and human services professionals will ensure that our communities remain safe and that our young people have the opportunity to develop into successful and productive citizens of every corner of New York State.

What We Do

The SNYPJOA conducts ongoing training throughout New York State training police officers and juvenile justice professionals in the area of child safety, juvenile law enforcement, and advocacy and support for families.  We are the only organization that offers the Certified Basic and Advanced Juvenile Officers Courses.  The SNYPJOA brought the SRO to NYS in the late 1990s , established the curriculum and then brought it to DCJS to be certified by the MPTC.  We now routinely offer DCJS Certified Basic School Resource Officer.  We also offer certification Advance School Resource Officer Training Course, as well as training in Interview and Interrogation and Child Sexual Abuse Investigations.  We also offer a series of seminars on topics that address the current trends and issues impacting young people throughout the state and country.  Sponsoring high quality training is the focus of the SNYPJOA.  We are proud to offer our newest certification course called the Community Resource Officers Course and have incorporated the "im Human" model from our partners at "Im Human" Inc.

The SNYPJOA believes that it is imperative to work collaboratively with other agencies in the accomplishment of our mission.  Our Organization maintains close working relationships with DCJS, OCFS, the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police,  the New York State Police, the New York State Sheriffs Association, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Youth Bureaus of New York State, NYS Women in Law Enforcement, and many other community organizations.  Cooperation among agencies in the juvenile Justice system allows us to pool resources and to improve services and ensures consistency of practice.
